Privacy Policy

Neuron is a learning app. We try to be honest about what data exists, where it lives, and who can see it. Here's the whole picture.

What we store locally on your device

• Your name, avatar, learning progress, streak, XP, completed lessons, achievements.
• Any API keys you choose to enter (ElevenLabs, Anthropic). These stay in your browser's localStorage and are sent only to those providers when you use voice narration or the AI tutor.
• Your friend list and tutor chat history.

What we store in the cloud (only if you enable Cloud Sync)

• A randomly generated, anonymous user ID issued by Firebase Authentication.
• Your display name, avatar emoji, friend code, total XP, weekly XP, streak, league tier, and last-updated timestamp.
• Friendship records — pairs of anonymous user IDs that have added each other.

We do not store: your email, your real name, your location, your contacts, your API keys, the contents of your tutor chats, your generated audio, or any payment data. We do not run analytics or advertising trackers.

Third-party services you may use through Neuron

• ElevenLabs — when you enable voice narration with your own key. See their privacy policy at elevenlabs.io.
• Anthropic Claude — when you enable the AI tutor with your own key. See their privacy policy at anthropic.com.
• Firebase (Google) — only if you enable Cloud Sync. See firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

Each request you make using your own API keys is governed by that provider's policy, not ours — we are not in the loop.

Your controls (GDPR Articles 15, 17, 20)

• Right to access + portability (Art. 15, 20): Settings → Your Data → Download all my data. We return a JSON file with everything we store about you (profile, certificates, friendships, cohort memberships).
• Right to erasure (Art. 17): Settings → Your Data → Delete all my data permanently. Removes your profile, certificates, friendships, cohort memberships, push tokens, and your anonymous Firebase user record. Cannot be undone.
• Local controls: Settings → Danger zone clears API keys, chat history, or all local progress.
• Disable Cloud Sync: at any time from Settings → Cloud Sync. Your data continues to exist locally but stops syncing.
• Backups: we keep weekly encrypted Firestore exports for 90 days for disaster recovery. After deletion, your data is also removed from the active database; backups roll off within 90 days.

Children

Neuron is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If we materially change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and call it out in the app.
